Make Every Part Beautiful….

My mother is the queen of all things home-maker….well, she’s just a queen in general! 🙂 Recently she recommended that I read Living a Beautiful Life by Alexandra Stoddard. Upon seeing the book, my first reaction was thinking this will be totally outdated and possibly boring, but my mother had given it to me, and I trust her judgment. So I read the first chapter. I was immediately drawn into Alexandra’s passion for making every little detail in her life as beautiful as possible! She takes room by room through her house describing in detail the way she has brought elegance, order and beauty to her life. At the end of each chapter she lists ways you can do the same in your own home. Here are a few of my favorites from the book and some of my own:

*Place white birch logs in your fireplace during months when you don’t lite fires.
-I like the idea of placing pillar candles of vary heights in your fireplace
*Meals are small acts of great importance, moments set aside for conversation, reflection, and communion
*Simmer applecider, cinnamon, cloves and tangerines to make a home smell cozy
– Buy YOURSELF fresh flowers once in awhile; you deserve it!
-Why not drink your morning coffee/tea out of a beautiful teacup
-We all have to wash our hands, so why not do it with pretty smelling soap
*Don’t hurry, don’t worry and smell the flowers along the way
-Instead of using some random piece of paper as a bookmark, go ahead, treat yourself to something sparkly!
-We all have to eventually make a TO-DO list, why not make it on pretty paper!

Here are some pictures of inspiration I’ve collected….ENJOY!

“To live in an environment that has to be endured or ignored rather than enjoyed is to be diminished as a human being.” -Sinclair Gauldie

“What we’re really talking about is the power of little things, and how they aren’t really little at all-they can be joyful acts of love that enrich and ennoble our lives.” -Alexandra Stoddard

“There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea.” -Portrait of a Lady

“To accomplish great things we must dream as well as act.” -Anatole France

“Style is a very simple way of saying complicated things.” -Jean Cocteau

  1. I used to have a job delivering flowers. I was actually a pretty great job in many ways. I often got to participate in making someone happy. When I would walk into an office with 8 or 10 women, they would all light up as I carried the bouquet into the room.
Anyway, there were several customers that I delivered to every week. They always had a fresh centerpiece for their table. I thought that was rather nice. 🙂
