Prov31 Week 2: Marriage

“A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.  Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.  She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life.”

 Proverbs 31: 10-12

I started this past week with superstar confidence and a game plan of rockin’ my husbands world and showering him with my awesomeness.  Ha.  When he reads this, I’m sure he’ll get a good chuckle out of it.  The week did not go as planned.

I was a grouch, I was rude and I even told my husband I had the strong urge to punch him in the face even when he had been nothing but wonderful!  This past week was 7 days of me realizing all the areas I need to work on in our marriage and noticing all the wonderfulness of my hubby…though in the grumpy state I was in, I sure as heck didn’t tell him!

God apparently had a different idea of what I needed to learn this past week.

So, after realizing that last week was kind of a bust, I’m extending my study of the Prov 31 wife through Valentines Day! Perfect timing right?!

Melissa from a Virtuous Woman shared this list of ways we can work on being better Godly wives to our husbands:  (what a great place for me to start).  If you click on the link above, she links blog posts that expand on each question and a few resources herself!

Do you respect your husband?
Do you pray for your husband?
Are you a home maker?
Can your husband trust you?
Are you thankful?
Do you go out of your way to be thoughtful to your husband?
Do you have a habit of nagging your husband?
Express your love with love notes.
Do you manipulate your husband?
Do you expect your husband to be perfect?
Men are basically easy to please. Feed them good food, keep the house clean, and give them plenty of…
What do you cook for your husband?
You love your husband when you love your kids.
Are you a helpmeet?

I was definitely lacking in a few of these areas this past week and if I’m completely honest, more often than not the rest of the time.

Now I love my husband, oh I love him so much.  He is an incredible man who loves Jesus and his family, and goes out of his way to shower us with love.

But we are both human, and you put any two humans in a home together with two small children, you’re bound to witness a lil’ drama.  Thank the Lord for grace.

Besides working through the above questions, here are a few verses God has sent my way: (the book of Proverbs has a lot of good ones! )

Proverbs 19:13 “A foolish son is his father’s ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like a constant dripping.”

Proverbs 17:27  “A (wo)man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a (wo)man of understanding is even-tempered”

Proverbs 21:19 “Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and ill-tempered wife.”   *I think this one was a great reminder!

Proverbs 12:4 “A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones.”

Ephesians 4:31 “Get rid of all bitterness, reage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.  Be kind  and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

I am by no means an expert on the matter of Godly love and marriage, and will be continually working on being the wife God wants me to be for my husband…like I said, Thank you Lord for Grace!

Author Kathy Lipp’s wrote a wonderful and FUN book called The Husband Project.

“The Husband Project is like a workout program for your marriage – only with less sweat and more chocolate. You commit to do fun and flirty things for 21 days to raise the temperature of your marriage – everything from flirty notes on the bathroom mirror to more lingerie in the bedroom. It is a little bit of work – and a whole lot of fun.” I had bought the book awhile back, but have yet to go through it. While I was cruising around her site, reading info on the book,  I found her 5 Day Husband Project Blogger Challenge!! Perfect right!? Lord, you are always faithful in providing the resources I need when I’m stuck!

So, guess what I’m doing for the next 5 days…Yup! Stay tuned for Challenge #1!
