Christmas Cookie Fail Night

I found this very crafty sugar cookie decorating idea on Pinterest, originally from Country Living, and thought it would be really fun to try it out for Christmas!

So, the day before Christmas, I pulled out what I thought was a simple and tasty sugar cookie recipe and set to work! Things started off pretty well; the dough was nice and smelled yummy, I had an array of cookie cutters and random cleaned stamps and good old trustworthy Bing Crosby was playing White Christmas in the background. Oh, and my 30 week pregnant belly was making a nice flour catcher!

I was really starting to have fun overlapping cutters and stamps and thought I was just so Martha! I even convinced Mr. Hubby to join me in the cookie decorating, which meant I had to let go of all OCD tendencies about the look of my cookies and just hand over the sprinkles! Pretty sure he was having a blast!

So after we overdosed the kitchen with sprinkles and laughter, we put the cookies in oven and went to watch some TV. Then, DING! The anticipation of seeing my wonderful cookies decorated in sprinkle amazingness was almost to much to bear! Then we pulled them out of the oven….dang. Little crispy they were!

And then, we put one in our mouths…..SOOOO NASTY! Ha ha ha, I don’t know what went wrong, but these were horrible cookies! Hubby said I could blame it on his sprinkle overload, but it went waaay beyond that!

So although the stamped sugar cookies didn’t turn out, I did manage to make a batch of very yummy peanut butter, pretzel and toffee cookies from a RECIPE I got from RealSimple.com! They were a hit Christmas day, so I guess the whole cookie night was a total fail, and we got some good laughs out as we were spitting sugar cookies down the drain!
