A Trip to Monterey Bay Aquarium

We recently took a family weekend getaway to Carmel, Ca. We spent the night at the beautiful hotel L’Auberge which was so luxurious and comfy, but probably a better place to go just you and the hubby and not with an 18 month in tow. But we lucked out and our room was right in the courtyard, so while Liam was napping, we sat out front of our room under heaters, with Lattes, a yummy cheese platter and our ipads doing a lil’ reading. So nice. After spending most of the day Saturday with Jerad’s grandparents, who also joined us for the weekend, shopping and staying warm, we decided that Sunday we would head over to the Monterey Bay Aquarium.
I wasn’t to sure how much Liam would enjoy the aquarium; afraid we just spend a pretty penny so we could hang out in the food court. Oh boy, was I wrong. He loved it! We could have spent all day just in front of the three story Kelp Forest tank. He was absolutely fascinated with all the fish, and just our luck, there were scuba divers in the tanks doing some cleaning and they would blow bubbles and wave at Liam. He was in toddler boy heaven! Pressing his chubby fingers and forehead against the glass, he would watch each fish swim by, and if ever a larger one made it’s way over, Liam would say, “do, do, do.” Which is his version apparently of the Jaws the movie theme song. Apparently mommy think all sharks go with that song, and he picked it up. 😉

Although we did spend most of our time at the Kelp Forest, we did manage to see most of everything else! We even got to see the Penguins make their way down a red carpet for a special presentation!
The wave and tide tunnel was almost like being on an amusement ride and the touch and feel pools were one of our favorites. Liam was able to play with seaweed, a giant sea slug (eww) and even managed to taste a handful of salt water when mommy wasn’t watching! By the time we had made it all the way through the aquarium and even spent some time outside watching the waves crash against the rocks, we were all exhausted! But it was so much fun! It was a wonderful family outing and watching Liam exploring everything was so special!
Here is the video my amazing hubby put together of the clips he shot..
