What Would You Do with 250 Square Feet?

My cousin Kelsey and her husband Sam recently moved to Ventura, Ca to be closer to his job designing surf boards and their love for the ocean. But Ventura isn’t the cheapest place to live! They looked at a few apartments and studios that were great, but more money a month than most people spend on most larger homes! So the search and commuting to work continued. Then finally they found the perfect lil’ nest that fit their budget, the distance to work and proximity to the big blue sea; it just didn’t fit all of their stuff…..or so we all thought. The cozy studio they found is 250 square feet total! That’s smaller than most living rooms! Here are a couple pictures she took before they moved in….

A few words from Kelsey:

“well…. our space is 250 square feet. I wanted to cry on move in day when I saw all our boxes piled up outside the new place. We definitely had to get rid of some stuff but most of it surprisingly fit! We couldn’t have done it without the two silver industrial shelves. The one in the kitchen doubles as kitchen electronics and pantry storage. Folding our clothes in the second shelf saves a lot of space rather than hanging them. I think the key was trying to use the same spaces for multiple purposes/making the most of your space; like the black cabinet in the entry is bathroom storage and office materials. This studio is special because we’re able to use some of the backyard for an outdoor patio area (it’s great that we don’t have to be stuck inside) and we have storage behind the studio for storing bikes and surfboards etc.”

At first, the idea of moving into the cozy home seemed a little daunting, but then my aunt and cousin joined forces! The creativity with the space they had to work with was incredible! Using colorful fabrics, warm lighting, different types of shelving and even a old door I got at a garage sale as a divider they created a beautiful home for her and her hubby! Here are the after pictures….
